Dear Member,
One of the principles at the heart of the Workers of England Union is our independence.
That does not mean we cannot support good policies, challenge bad ones or speak strongly about decisions that affect working people. It means our starting point is always the interests of our members. That independence is important, but so is your involvement.
I would encourage you to visit the Workers of England Union website regularly. We are publishing new articles throughout the week covering workplace rights, employment issues, health and wellbeing and the wider issues affecting working people in England.
Please read them, share them and, importantly, tell us what you think. We want the website to become somewhere our members regularly visit and contribute ideas to. If there is a workplace issue you think we should be covering, let us know.
I would also remind members that the Workers of England Union is not something that should only be contacted when there is a problem. If you would like a Workers of England Union official to visit your workplace, meet members, talk to colleagues who may be interested in joining or discuss issues affecting your workplace, please contact us.
The more our members participate, the stronger and more effective our independent Trade Union becomes.
Thank you for your continued support.

Fancy something different during your lunch break?
The WEU Worktime Quiz | Click to Play
We are introducing the WEU Worktime Quiz, a downloadable quiz designed to give you and your colleagues something enjoyable to do during your break, over a cup of tea or whenever you have a few spare minutes.
Download it, print it off and have a go with your workmates.
This is something we would like to develop further, with more quizzes, puzzles and other downloadable activities that members can enjoy at work.
But we need your feedback.
Did you enjoy it? Was it too easy or too difficult? Would you like more? What else would you like us to produce?
Give the first WEU Worktime Quiz a try and let us know what you think.

WEU Members Tip
Do you know what information your employer holds about you?
Many employees never think about their personnel or HR records until something goes wrong.
If you become involved in a workplace dispute, capability process, sickness procedure, grievance or disciplinary matter, information held by your employer may become extremely important.
Under UK data protection law, you can make a Subject Access Request asking an organisation for copies of your personal data. Depending on what is held and subject to exemptions, this could include emails discussing you, HR records, occupational health-related correspondence held by the employer, meeting notes and other information in which you are identifiable.
This can sometimes reveal information that you did not know existed.
There are rules about what must be provided, information concerning other people may need to be removed, and there are circumstances where information can legitimately be withheld.
The WEU member advantage: If you are considering making a Subject Access Request because of a workplace problem, speak to our Office first. How and when you make the request can matter, and we can help you think about what information may actually be relevant.
Sometimes knowing what has been written is just as important as knowing what has been said.
