Drivers vs Managers at Metrolink

The Manchester Evening News article revealed that two senior managers were videoed discussing highly sensitive Metrolink information in a public place—and yet they have not been suspended.

Why not? Is it one rule for Drivers and another for Managers at Metrolink?

The two senior managers were caught on camera discussing private, sensitive company information in a public area that could be damaging for Metrolink’s reputation. Policies and procedures should apply to everyone in the workplace, regardless of their position.

One must wonder how Metrolink’s directors would react if they discovered a driver had done the same. If Chris Coleman, Metrolink’s Managing Director, fails to take the appropriate action against these managers, the follow-up question is clear: Should he remain in charge?

According to the video footage, the managers claimed that staffing levels have been reduced to a point that could “grind the system to a halt, if drivers refuse to work their rest days.” This allegation strikes at the heart of passenger safety and service reliability.

Chris Coleman needs to reassure the public that all tram drivers receive adequate rest between shifts and that the managers’ conversation held no valid basis. The community is waiting for answers—and swift action.
