Q1: Who can be a member of the union?

We are a general union and anyone can be a member as we cover all workplaces.

Q2: Are you affiliated to a political party?

We are not affiliated to any political party, ensuring our independence and focus on workplace issues.

Q3: Are you a member of the TUC?

Trade unions do not have to affiliate to any Trade Union Congress—whether the British TUC, Scottish TUC, Welsh TUC, or Irish TUC. The Workers Of England helped form the English TUC.

Q4: I have a problem at work, what should I do?

If you are a Workers Of England member, contact our head office at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please include your full name, membership number, contact number, and a brief description of the issue. A representative will be in touch.

Q5: I have a problem but don’t know/have a rep in my workplace.

We do not have workplace reps to avoid any conflict of interest. Our representatives are based around the country and remain fully independent from your employer. We also have Workplace Liaison Officers who promote the union but do not carry out formal representations.

Q6: I have a problem at work but I am not a Workers Of England member.

We can only assist members. Upon joining, you receive immediate advice, but to have a representative at a meeting you must have been a member for 3 months. New members can opt to pay the annual subscription in advance for immediate representation in meetings (this does not apply to employment tribunals, which are assessed case by case).

Q7: I think my membership may have lapsed. What now?

If your contributions are in arrears, you may not be eligible for legal assistance until all unpaid subscriptions are settled in full. See Q6 for details on when representation begins.

Q8: I just joined Workers Of England because I have a problem—am I entitled to help?

Refer to the answer at Q6 above for details on eligibility and representation waiting periods.

Q9: My subscriptions stopped and no one contacted me. Now I have an issue—what do I do?

It is each member’s responsibility to ensure subscriptions are paid on time. You may be able to back-pay missed subscriptions to regain full benefits.
