The closure of 68 Pizza Hut restaurants and 11 delivery sites has left 1,210 workers unemployed, exposing the harsh reality behind the hospitality boom. Rising costs, low pay, and insecure hours are driving workers to breaking point, even as businesses struggle to stay afloat.

With 130,000 vacancies across the sector, workers remain undervalued, overworked, and often denied the tips they earn. The WEU is demanding fair pay, secure contracts, and transparent tipping. A thriving hospitality industry depends on a workforce that’s respected and properly rewarded.

Statement from the General Secretary

Stephen Morris, WEU General Secretary, said:

“The Pizza Hut closures show that the hospitality industry cannot rebuild on the backs of underpaid, overworked staff. Workers in England deserve security, respect, and fair pay. That is how hospitality will thrive. 130,000 vacancies in hospitality just shows that these jobs must be poorly paid.”
