Why the Workers of England Union Refutes Hope not Hates completely False Accusations of being Far-Right

Statement from the Workers of England Union

The Workers of England Union strongly refutes the false and self-interested accusations made by Hope Not Hate claiming we are a far-right organisation. These claims are entirely untrue.

We are simply an independent Trade Union, not affiliated with any political party, including the British Labour Party or the Trades Union Congress. Our sole purpose is to represent all workers across England, defend employment rights, promote lawful employment practices, and campaign for fair taxation and proper public accountability.

We believe Hope not Hate's accusations stem from ideological hostility towards independent Trade Unions that do not align with their political worldview. Disagreement does not equate to extremism. Independent Trade Unions do not equate to being far-right. In fact, we have previously exposed the lies spread by this group regarding our status and legitimacy.

To illustrate this, imagine someone standing at the North Pole. From that position, everything looks south. It makes no difference whether something is slightly south or extremely south, it all appears the same. Likewise, Hope Not Hate standing at the far-left pole appears to view everything outside its own far-left position as “right” or “far-right,” with no distinction. This is precisely how the Workers of England Union is being misrepresented by them.

To be clear, The Workers of England Union does not promote extreme nationalism, authoritarianism, or exclusion. Just like the Scottish and Welsh Trade Union Congresses, who advocate for Scotland and Wales, we advocate for fair representation for our members in England. Our focus remains firmly on improving working conditions and ensuring employers follow the law.

Claims that we are infiltrated, politically manipulated, or operating unlawfully are unsubstantiated. No evidence has been provided to support these allegations. We continue to act transparently and in full compliance with the Certification Office and UK law. Please go to our website see for yourself.

Defending Freedom of Expression

We are proud to say, we do not police our members’ political beliefs. Our role is to protect their employment rights and defend their freedom of expression.

It is not the Workers of England Union’s job to judge who is politically aligned with whom, nor to interfere in personal affiliations. Those matters are irrelevant to the WEU’s core purpose of fighting to protect members employment rights.

What does matter is when a member is expressing views which could be, in defence of workers’ rights, challenging employer practices, or advocating for better conditions and protections in England. The Workers of England Union stands firmly behind its members right to self-expression, it does not judge, scrutinise or discipline them for expressing their views.

Defending members’ freedom of expression is fundamental to a Trade Union’s role. Anything less undermines the very principles of free speech under English law and representation the Trade Union claims to uphold. Those principles are 'not far-right' but are 'basic rights of an individual' living in England.

Hope Not Hate’s actions appear designed to damage the Workers of England Unions reputation and discourage workers from joining an independent Trade Union. They also want to distract from the British Labour Party funding Trade Union’s weak employer paid representation and they want ensure that subscription money from those Trade Union continues to go to the British Labour Party.

We remain committed to standing up for fairness, lawful employment, and proper representation for workers across England. We are, what we have always been; an independent Trade Union standing up for workers and fairness in England. Join us and see the difference.
