Bring Back 100,000 Jobs And England Gains £4 Billion In Wages

For Immediate Release : 03/07/2026

The Workers of England Union has today called on the Government to take stronger action to protect employment in England, warning that billions of pounds in wages are being lost as profitable companies continue to move work overseas.
In the second article of its campaign examining the sale of England's industries and the outsourcing of jobs, the WEU highlights that if England retained or returned 100,000 full-time jobs, it could generate almost £4 billion in annual wages and more than £1 billion in direct Income Tax and National Insurance contributions, based on current Office for National Statistics earnings data.
The Workers of England Union argues that while many companies continue to benefit from customers in England, infrastructure and public contracts, there is still no comprehensive government record showing how many jobs are transferred overseas each year.

Stephen Morris, General Secretary of the Workers of England Union, said:

"Workers deserve transparency. If profitable companies are moving jobs overseas while continuing to benefit from customers across England and taxpayer-funded contracts, the public has a right to know. We should be rewarding businesses that invest in workers here in England, not ignoring the long-term consequences of exporting employment."

The Workers of England Union is calling for the introduction of an Employment Transparency proposal that would require larger employers to publish annually the number of jobs transferred overseas, where those jobs have gone, the business functions affected, and details of any government grants or public contracts they receive.

The Workers of England Union believes that greater transparency would help Parliament, workers and taxpayers in England to understand the true scale of offshoring and encourage policies that support long-term employment in England.
